As a teacher, probably the ONLY thing we dislike about summer break (other than it always going too quickly), is how much the students regress. They leave our classrooms in May just overflowing with wonderful knowledge....and then come August, it's like they have never been in a classroom in their entire lives. We always have to start back over for a few weeks! It's infuriating! Imagine all that we could accomplish if we didn't have to spend the first few weeks going back over the essentials that we KNOW they were taught the grade prior.
As a mother, I know summer can be insane. The kids are bored; you're not fun enough for them; whine whine whine. In an effort to alleviate a little bit of both of these problems, I have decided to host a virtual summer reading program on here! It will provide a reading schedule, discussion questions, coordinating projects, other books, even shows they can watch to go with their reading. I encourage parents to read with their students as well! You'd be surprised at what all they know and just how intuitive they are!
Check back here for updates starting Monday!
